Philadelphia Department of Prisons
The PDP provides a secure correctional environment for people accused or convicted of crimes in Philadelphia. The city says its four facilities house both men and women, and the PDP decides where each person is housed.
Philadelphia is a consolidated city and county, so there is no separate county jail. The PDP's facilities are Philadelphia's local jails.

How to Locate Someone in Philadelphia Custody

- 1Have a full legal name and date of birth, or the police identification number (PID).
- 2Search the official PDP locator. It shows which PDP facility holds the person.
- 3No result? Call Classification, Movement & Registration (24/7) at 215-685-8394, 215-685-8395 or 215-685-8396. Spanish: 215-685-8692.

What to Know Before Visiting or Calling
- Search the locator first; people can be moved between facilities or released.
- Have the person's PPN (city ID number) ready for visits, mail and money orders.
- Follow the visiting dress code; a visit is canceled if it is not met.
- Bring government ID and quarters for lockers.
- Commissary and phone deposits are not bail.
- Report self-harm concerns heard on a call or visit to the PDP at 215-685-8443 or 215-685-8442.
Schedules and rules come from the city's official pages and can change. Confirm before traveling.
Court Records and Bail Next Steps
A Municipal Court bail commissioner sets bail at preliminary arraignment. The docket on the state court portal names the court and bail entries; it does not confirm custody.
The FJD says cash bail can be posted 24 hours a day at the basement-level Payment Center of the Stout Center for Criminal Justice, 1301 Filbert Street (Bail Acceptance 215-683-7727), and eligible Municipal Court bail online through PAePay Bail.
Payment does not guarantee release; holds and detainers from other jurisdictions can delay or prevent it.
